Nieuw-Zuid-Wales strekt zich uit van de Stille Oceaan door de Great Dividing Range naar de binnenvlaktes met kuststeden.
De ontwikkeling van Nieuw-Zuid-Wales begon in 1788 toen de First Fleet aankwam in Port Jackson voor de Britse nederzetting.
De staat bewaart het Aboriginal erfgoed door beschermde gebieden, kunstcollecties en educatieve programma's in het hele gebied.
Nieuw-Zuid-Wales onderhoudt een openbaar vervoersnetwerk dat Sydney verbindt met regionale centra via treinen, bussen en vliegvelden.
De Mount Kosciuszko in de Snowy Mountains bereikt een hoogte van 2.228 meter en vormt het hoogste punt van continentaal Australië.
