A.S. Pushkin Museum Brodzany

The A.S. Pushkin Museum is a literary institution housed in a Renaissance manor that dates to the 17th century and stands in the village of Brodzany. Inside, rooms display materials exploring the connections between Slovak writers and Russian literary figures, presented across various permanent and temporary exhibitions.

The building where the museum sits was first mentioned in records around 1377 as a family residence before it evolved into something with literary significance. Over centuries, it transformed from a noble manor into a site of cultural memory tied to Russian and Slovak literature.

The museum was named after Pushkin because of the deep connection between his wife Natalya and the Brodzany estate, where she spent time after his death. This choice of naming reflects how the place became linked to Russian literary culture through personal history rather than through the writer's own visits.

The grounds are open on weekdays and weekend mornings, though hours vary by day so it helps to check before going. The estate also has outdoor spaces where you can walk around, which is worth doing regardless of the indoor exhibitions.

The surrounding park contains stone busts of ten writers from both Slovak and Russian traditions, placed among the trees by important sculptors. These sculptures turn the grounds into an outdoor gallery where you can see how different regions honored their literary figures.
