McDowell County, District in het zuiden van West Virginia, Verenigde Staten
McDowell County strekt zich uit over 535 vierkante mijl in het Cumberland-gebergte, met hoogtes tot 3.399 voet op Flat Top Mountain.
De Algemene Vergadering van Virginia stichtte McDowell County in 1858 en vernoemde het naar gouverneur James McDowell.
Het district onderging sociale veranderingen toen president Kennedy hier het voedselbonnenprogramma startte om armoede tegen te gaan.
De districtszetel Welch is verbonden via de nationale snelweg 52 en de West Virginia routes 16, 80 en 83.
McDowell County veranderde van de grootste kolenproducent in 1950 met 100.000 inwoners naar een bevolking van 19.111 in 2020.
