Standing Figure of Nefertiti

The Standing Figure of Nefertiti is a small limestone sculpture from ancient Egypt, roughly 40 centimeters tall, showing the queen in a transparent robe. The work is finely carved with careful details like painted eyes and a red mouth.

German archaeologists discovered this sculpture in fragments in 1920 at the workshop of artist Thutmose in Tell el-Amarna. The work comes from a period when Egyptian artists began exploring new ways to show the human form.

The sculpture is small enough to view from many angles, allowing visitors to see the fine carving and preserved paint details. It pays to spend time with this work to truly notice all its refined features.

Curiously, this figure remained unfinished with several parts like the right arm and upper sections missing. These traces show where the artist intended to add further details.
