West-Australië beslaat een derde van het Australische continent, zich uitstrekkend van tropische noordelijke gebieden tot gematigde zuidelijke kusten.
Het gebied werd in 1829 een Britse kolonie met de vestiging van Swan River en transformeerde later tot een federale staat.
