Church of St Mary in Charlcombe is an old stone building with thick walls, a tiled roof, and a small bell tower at the front. It displays Norman architecture with pointed windows, a narrow nave, and a chancel area, all arranged in a simple functional layout for worship.
The church was built in the 12th century, possibly on a much older sacred site dating back around 675. During the Victorian era between 1857 and 1861, the building underwent careful restoration that preserved its architecture while carrying out repairs to secure it for future generations.

Writer Henry Fielding ran away from home to marry in this church in 1734, an unusual act for the time that links it to English literary history. A monument nearby honors his sister Sarah Fielding, a pioneering figure in English novels.
